Naminè - or Miah, but. Same difference.

[It's another typical day in Western Thanalan - the sun is high and bright in the sky, the heat is almost unbearable, and there is no shortage of explorers performing all manner of tasks for those that offered the right payment.

Terra - well, 'Talen' as most Eorzeans knew him - was one such adventurer. Today, he had donned the green and white robes of a spell caster, a conjurer's wand at his hip and a hunting journal that was quickly seeing more use than it usually did in his hands. There was something out here that would prove to be a good enemy to hone the earth and wind magics that conjury taught, and he was hoping he would find them soon.

The sounds of fire consuming oxygen in the air and ice forming interrupt his train of thought, and his gaze is drawn towards the spell flinging of a small Miqo'te thaumaturge, and the number of enemies that she was tossing spells at.

Four or five of those annoying buzzards - those odds didn't look very good. He frowns, then puts up the log and pulls out the ash wand. 'Let's see... best target would be...'

A brief moment of concentration, to pull on the aetheric energies of nature...]
Spirits of earth, lend me your strength...

[Stone is cast, and the magically-flung rocks hit their intended. Another brief mutter, and the Stone on the buzzard is followed by Protect on the small thaumaturge.

Your surprise back-up is here, and he's in acolyte gear.]

[It had been just another day in the desert, albeit part of the more wet sides of it as she moved more off the beaten trail to practice her castings. With how much healing she had done, the others she'd met along the way thought she could use a bit more...offensive spell practice.

The air listened, the earth always seemed to respond to dire need, but using her own aether to channel ice and fire...?

She wasn't so sure if she was ready for that, even as she hid her face behind the hood of her hempen robe. Yet if knowing how it's cast would help her keep others safer... who was she to say no?

Someone getting pecked at, apparently. Even when (while maybe slightly panicking as she did manage a few fire spells to knock one of them into a nearby rocky surface) she seemed unsure of herself in using black magic. At least until she heard someone else's voice (someone noticed oh no oh no what do I-) and heard the rocks pass her head and smack into the buzzards.

...Was that a Protect?

Yep. Definitely a Protect. She looks back to briefly nod and mutter a brief "thank you-" before yelping and jumping back, accidentally casting Blizzard II. At least it gives her enough time to hide move back beside sudden new help.

He's taller and seems a bit more confident with stone spells then she does she will be more than happy with accepting this assistance. DDD:]

He is the mage tank. It is him.

[personal profile] earthshards 2014-04-10 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
[His gaze follows the girl as she all but scrambles for cover, and he offers her a small, but confident-looking smile.] Don't worry; I've got this.

[He then returns his gaze to the buzzards, which were shaking off the cold of the hastily cast Blizzard II and heading right for their first target. His expression hardens as they get closer, and with his right arm, he makes a broad sweeping gesture in front of him even as he gathers the aether needed for his only water-based spell.] Scram!

[Fluid Aura does it's job, knocking back one of the approaching four. A quick application of Aero on all four later, and the one with the most damage is quickly felled.

One down, three to go. But now the buzzards are practically on him, their beaks attempting to pierce through his Protect ward.

He'll go back to throwing Stone spells at them in a second. First, he starts muttering another spell under his breath.]
Blessed Lifestream, hear my plea...

[There's the green healing energy he was looking for... just a little more...

'There!'

The Medica washes over him and the young thaumaturge, and he goes back to using Stone and Aero.]

T-thank you...

[She can feel her face go red a little, before she focuses on just one of the three that weren't knocked back by the sudden burst of water. Okay.... okay... she can do this. Breathe...]

F-freeze!

[Her spell smacks another out of the air, just in time for her to notice that her backup is suddenly being pecked at just like she was but mere moments ago. with a gasp, she switches to something no mere newbie thaumaturge could cast as she rushes the spell.]

Elementals, be our shield!

[A magical layer of stone-enhanced skin suddenly appears around him as she, very unprofessionally, whacks a bird away from her with her cudgel.]

Stop!

[...She did not mean to accidentally sleep that but she'll take it!]

[Is that a small, proud smile over the Blizzard spell? It is, but you won't get him to admit it.

He curses briefly as the pecks make their way through his Protect, but just as he's about to cast another Medica, he feels the surge of earth-based aether surge up just before the Stoneskin materializes.

Wait. Stoneskin? From a thaumaturge?

Consider him impressed a little more; a conjurer that was willing to learn how to reach into the void with their aether and unleash elemental fury was, in his experience, a rare individual.

'I wonder what her reason is...?'

He could ask her later. For now, there were still two buzzards left. The ash wand lights up again as he casts.]
Wind!

[With Aero now reapplied, he another Stone hits its mark, reducing the two to one. And that one is sleeping.] Keep it up - we're almost done!

[personal profile] chainsrevised 2014-04-11 09:35 am (UTC)(link)

[She looks up slightly, almost catching that smile before the cursing occurred. Well, it was Eorzea - she isn't entirely surprised. Yet for some reason this conjurer seemed...familiar.

'Where have I...?'

She shrugs it off for now, focusing on trying to take care of the last remaining buzzard. Which means it was time to switch things up a little bit, and likely gave it away that she was more used to two-handed canes as she set the last one ablaze.]

Fire!

[...holy light it worked O O ]

[personal profile] earthshards 2014-04-15 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
Good one! [Yeah, it's more than a little obvious by now that this caster is used to a two-handed cane instead of the cudgle she is currently using. But you can't argue with results.

He starts to channel the earth-aspected aether one last time, not bothering with a chant to focus.

He casts, and a final volley of stones hits the buzzard square on the head, putting it out of it's misery.

He sighs in relief, and places the ash wand back at his hip.]
Glad I showed up when I did - that was a little close for comfort.

[He looks over at the thaumaturge and offers her what he hopes is an encouraging smile.] You did pretty good out there.

[She breathes a little sigh of relief when she sees the familiar spell smack the buzzard out of the sky, and with a slight hand gesture of apology for the life taken, she looks up to the taller conjurer with a faint smile crossing her lips.]

Thank you.

[For the help, or for the compliment? ...Likely both.]

Maybe I should... go somewhere else to practice next time...

[sob she will never be used to this kind of spellcasting...]

[That understatement, for some reason, gets a quiet chuckle out of him.] A few feet - ah, alms - closer to Horizon would be better. The buzzards like to stay closer to Crescent Cove.

[And they have that annoying habit of attacking anything that moves. He does a quick scan of the area, just to be sure that there aren't any more buzzards too close to them, before nodding and looking back at the miqo'te thaumaturge - and pausing briefly, a look of recognition appearing on his face.

No. Way. Tribal markings aside, this girl was a dead ringer for--] ... Naminè?

[Coincidence. Must be. He shakes his head as if to clear it, and then gets back on topic.] If we're going to keep talking, we should probably move somewhere safer.

Mnh.

[She nods, an affirmative noise escaping her as she blinks at the sudden correction. That was definitely not the Eorzean measurements she's started to grow accustomed to over the course of being here. That was more like... like...

The brief thought that the conjurer looked familiar stirred into something more. She knew this person, or... knew someone connected to them. She could sense the chains linking them, see the memory links lying there. She could pull at them if she wanted, but she didn't. She knew him.

She lowers her hood to get a better look at her brief savior.] Xe- no, Terra?

[This was not a coincidence. She knew it wasn't, could almost feel that warm pulsing from the planet itself confirming it.

She is not sorry for delaying in that response, because first instinct to stop and stare in shock. Hydaelyn... did she really...?]
earthshards: (pic#6295969)

[personal profile] earthshards 2014-04-16 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
[It's amazing, how he didn't think he could find himself in a bigger state of shock. It was one thing to have her confirm that yes, she was Naminè. But the way she had confirmed it?

Don't mind Terra as he tries to catch up to his thoughts.]
You... know me?

['Slow down--don't get ahead of yourself.' There were only two ways that Naminè would recognize him. Either this was the Naminè that had been with him and Ira in the Tower of Animus, or...

'Or she's the one from back home.'

He wanted to ask - merciful Light, if she was the one that he, as Xemnas, had kept in contact with for the better part of a year, then it meant that he wasn't the only survivor of whatever it was that had destroyed his universe. And if Naminè had survived--

Damn it. He was getting ahead of himself again. And those buzzards were starting to make a comeback.

He looks towards the direction of Crescent Cove, then nods briefly.]
Come on - we'll be safer over there.

[Screw going back to Horizon at this point.]

[She blinks once, nodding in her current state of surprise. Of course she did... how could she forget one of the few things that was her life before being brought here?]

I do.

[She wouldn't have been able to forgive herself if she hadn't, which is another reason she slowly begins to head to Crescent Cove as asked. Be very grateful for that Dusk, dude. Be very, very grateful.]

O-okay.
